Designer Thomas Meyerhoffer has been at the forefront of innovative water related design for the past 15 years from his studio in California. No stranger to breaking the boundaries of product design, the Meyerhoffer range of surfboards has been released to critical acclaim and has earned Thomas Meyerhoffer a load design awards for innovation.
The longboards look unnervingly different from the traditional longboard design and it’s hard to see how these will work effectively. The shapes contours are so defined, different sections of the shape are so pronounced and at different angles. The true genius of the design is recognising the fact that a shortboard template can be incorporated into a longboard form.
Looking at the first 6ft of the board resembles a shortboard outline, it’s only after this point the board jutes out to a fuller nose that can perform traditional nose riding techniques. In essence the board offers unique performance attributes as the bottom end of the board will produce sharper, tighter arcing turns and more drive.
Is this the future… Apparently many sceptics have praised the boards design and really taken to the flow and positioning that the Meyerhoffer boards have to offer.
